Stone Temple Institute is the New England headquarters to learn this massage modality. Classes are offered on a monthly basis and we are proud to continue to have this available with Nell! Here is what she has to say….

“When I first started massage school I read about Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy and I was amazed and intrigued. I found a certified practitioner in my area and after receiving my first session, I was blown away and knew it was for me! It became my goal to become a Certified AOBT therapist as soon as I could. I took my barefoot basics course just before I graduated from massage school and doing so was the best thing I ever did for career. I have continued to work smarter not harder, giving my clients the therapeutic deep pressure they need with out injuring myself.

I hope to see you in one of my workshops in Clinton, Connecticut. The shoreline of CT is a relaxed beach community – with beautiful views of the tidal Hammonassett River from my studio – I encourage you to pursue this amazing modality. It will change your life!”

Barefoot Basics ©

Introductory – 3 days – 25 CE Hours – $649
Pre-requisite: Therapist understands anatomy and physiology.
Class times: 9:00-6:00 w/hour for lunch

This is where it all starts for everyone …the basics. This 3 day introductory course is designed to teach massage professionals how to administer the ultimate barefoot effleurage application. Our work may look easy through editorials and photos but in reality, it takes strength, balance and coordination to deliver this barefoot application with flow and grace. We have some fitness levels /weight guidelines associated with taking the Barefoot Basics class. Our certified instructors are happy to discuss through photos and verbal descriptions of the upper arm and core strength you should have to participate & deliver a comfortable session to your receiving partner. We ask that you contact the instructor that is closest to your area prior to registration to discuss what is expected of you.

The parallel bars suspended from the ceiling are used for balance, control and leverage. The Barefoot Basics Certification program is (3 days) from 9:00 am. to 6:00 pm. You do not have to take advance classes to deliver a one hour luxurious deep tissue massage.

The outline for Barefoot Basic is theory and lecture focusing on history of barefoot massage, cautions, contraindications, safe body mechanics for the therapist and receiving partner, proper draping, construction and design of bars in the treatment room, marketing the technique to your clients and foot hygiene. It is a full and rich program to say the least!

During your study with us, you will feel every single stroke from your instructor. You will have an opportunity to work on the instructor as well. On the final day, we provide a public clinic/practical for the ultimate in learning retention. Making sure you are safely up and operational before you leave the workshop; has been our acclaimed reputation for years. We set the standards when it comes to barefoot bar work and we deliver the most organized and supervised hands-on seminar in the industry. Massage therapists come in all shapes and sizes. Our teaching methodologies are designed to work with each practitioner’s skill level, physical characteristics and learning style.

Barefoot Anterior/Side-Lying Workshop

1 day – 8 CE – $215 Pre-requisite: Therapist understands anatomy and physiology.
Class times: 9:00-6:00 w/hour for lunch

This course is usually taught right after barefoot basics for convenience and is designed to be a continuation of the sequences taught during barefoot basics. It’s really two (2) courses for the price of one. The Anterior portion covers more in-depth knowledge of anterior muscles and its relationship to veins and superficial arteries which play an important role in controlling depth of compression. Therapist will be taught a fabulous “spa finish” that will complete the amazing 60 or 90 minute posterior treatment. Receiving the anterior spa finish has been designed to incorporate a gentle eye cover accoutrement. Specifically incorporated into the anterior neck routine, clients will receive the anterior massage in an ethical manner. We are unaware of any massage regulatory agency that endorses a heavy foot or full bodyweight over the chest near the heart or a standing practitioner straddled over a client’s face. Make sure you study with a reputable educator when it comes to learning anterior barefoot work.

The side-lying portion of this workshop is geared towards those clients who are seen on a regular basis and can work as a team with the therapist to locate the source of pain patterns and to treat them.
It can be used in conjunction with sports massage and therapists will learn myofascial foot skills to spread and elongate the hip flexors and explore trigger point work done with the feet.
Client assistance during the application is involved with multi-positioning to locate anterior, lateral, medial and sagittal muscles in relationship to surrounding structures and landmarks.
